In 2005, the all-female auxiliary, which is one of four active auxiliaries of the Chicago Urban League, celebrated 50 years of supporting the League’s programs and initiatives. The Leaguers was started in 1955 by Muriel Ibom, who was hired by the League as a community representative and was responsible for attending various community meetings to raise awareness about the organization and communicate the League’s positions to people in the community. The Leaguers strive to: assist with CUL fundraising; perpetuate the agency’s policies and programs; interest the community in the League’s work; acquaint Chicagoans with the challenges that the League addresses; and solicit memberships and volunteer for League activities.
