• Foreclosure Counseling

The Foreclosure Counseling Program focuses on the overwhelming number of Chicago area foreclosure. Housing counselors work as a liaison between the homeowner and the loss mitigation department of the mortgage company to create a feasible plan for the defaulted homeowner to remedy arrears of the mortgage and stop the foreclosure action through loan modification.

The Circuit Court of Cook County Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program is a court-based mediation program for foreclosure cases filed in Cook County. Eligible homeowners with pending foreclosure in the Circuit Court of Cook County meet with on-site housing counselors and attorneys, free of charge, to prepare and submit workout packages to their prospective lender(s). This program is in partnership with the Illinois Housing Development Authority.

Currently, homeowners who have received a summons after April 2010 can call the toll-free help line at 877-895-2455 or (312-836-5222 TDD) to schedule a free meeting with a housing counselor.
