• I AM Initiative for African-American Males

The Chicago Urban League’s I AM Initiative for African-American Males is a series of male-focused support- and solutions-driven programs designed to encourage and empower African-American men and boys.

The League, acknowledging the lack of programming focused on African-American males, has taken the lead to address the ongoing social, economic, familial and educational crises impacting Black men.

I AM takes a holistic approach to reversing the negative trends and outcomes that effect black males in greater numbers, such as high unemployment and incarceration rates, low educational achievement and one-parent households.

    Target audience

    African-American males ages 6 to 40.

    I AM’s goals

    Family engagement/fatherhood

    Positive cultural representations

    Educational achievement

    Workplace success

    Civic engagement
